Nagel-Group inaugurates new warehouse in the chilled logistics centre in Bochum

Bochum, 12 September 2018 - With today's inauguration, the new cold store of the Nagel-Group in Bochum has officially started operations. I. Kappel Gewerbepark Bochum GmbH & Co. KG has built a new extension with 15,000 pallet spaces for the food logistics provider.

With the new cold store, the Nagel-Group strengthens its site in Bochum. The specialist for food logistics has been on site since 1976. The branch was last extended in 2011. In order to meet the demands of modern warehousing, many old buildings on the premises had to be demolished last year. Construction on the cold store, which was officially opened today, began in July 2017.

Tobias Nagel, shareholder and Chief Technical Officer of the Nagel-Group, explains the necessity of the new building: "In the meantime, we had reached our capacity limits at our branch in Bochum. With the extension, we are modernising and extending our storage capacities and, thus, are able to offer our customers urgently needed space." The warehouse can be divided into different temperature zones. The individual sections can be cooled down to zero degrees. Food of all kinds is handled by the Bochum branch. Moreover, the Nagel-Group offers on-site services such as order picking, retail packing, labelling, repacking of products, and display construction.

The Nagel-Group has rented the 13.5 metres high facility on a long-term basis. With this extension, the owner of the property, I.Kappel Gewerbepark Bochum, has created a state-of-the-art refrigerated logistics property. "We have invested around EUR 14 million in project development," explains managing director Rolf Kappel. The inaugurated area itself with the temperature-controlled and multi-functional logistics property has an overall area of more than 11,000 square metres and 27 fully insulated loading bays. Rolf Kappel: "Optimised cladding and insulation have been designed for the facility in accordance with industry standards for food logistics and, needless to say, state-of-the-art technology like LED lighting."

By modernising the branch and gaining new customer projects, the Nagel-Group has created additional jobs in Bochum. In recent months, around 70 new jobs have been created, mainly in the warehouse area.
