Energy management system

Energy efficient in the future

The Nagel-Group has successfully introduced an energy management system according to DIN EN 50001. The rollout was completed across Germany with the certification obtained at the end of September 2016.

Background: within the framework of the implementation of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive 2012/27/EU, all companies which do not fall under the definition of an SME are subject to energy audit obligations according to DIN EN 16247 by the end of 2015. An extension of the deadline till 31 December 2016 applies for those companies in Germany that can prove they are implementing the higher ranking DIN EN 50001 certified energy management system.

The introduction of the energy management system according to DIN EN 50001 at the Borgholzhausen branch and the headquarters in Versmold, which was already implemented in 2015, served as a pilot project for the comprehensive implementation of the system in Germany, which was completed in 2016.

Optimising the use of energy in everyday life

The objective of an energy management system is the examination of energy and savings potentials at all levels. This includes the optimisation of technical installations, energy procurement tailored to the needs of the company, training of employees, and the optimisation of processes. "With an organized energy management system, we are adopting a standard with which the Nagel-Group can achieve its economic and ecological goals," says Peter Jockenhövel, Project Manager Green Logistics, who has been responsible for implementation.

Transparency through systematic approach

The energy management system of the Nagel-Group is a systematic approach to measure energy consumed according to quantity, and to distribute energy at the level of individual consumer at the same time. This provides a clear view of individual consumption, allowing initiation of targeted actions. Peter Jockenhövel sees the Nagel-Group on the way to a promising future: "The aim of our energy goals is to bring business success, energy efficiency, and sustainable energy consumption in line with each other. With the introduction of the energy management system, the Nagel-Group has taken the first step towards achieving these goals."
