Cooking and healthy nutrition often is not the focus in disadvantaged families. Healthy and balanced nutrition is easy to prepare with a plan and the necessary instruction. With a cooking project the Mütterzentrum of SOS-Kinderdorf Saarbrücken helps their guests to learn something new about healthy cooking.

Up to 10 parents are part of the preparation of recipe plans and shopping lists. Afterwards they cook together with their children and a teacher. The parents get to know how important a balanced nutrition is for the child's best interests. They get information on how to use products and food with economic sense.

The children learn to cook in a workshop and get to know something about healthy food. At the same time the workshop promotes a positive approach between parents and children.

Through the family strengthening programme in Nairobi SOS Children's Villages prevent vulnerable families from falling apart. A key element is to ensure that children get an education, and family members get access to medicines and learn how to start their own business. SOS Children's Villages’ vocational training centers offer young people from the program a craftsman training.

In Zambia, there is a need to support the young people in our care with vocational skills that will be useful to them in life and support the local community. We aim to provide relevant vocational training in a setting that’s sustainable and seek a contribution towards the construction of a Vocational Training Centre and Diner at Chipata, Zambia. The centre will offer courses such as a cookery and agricultural training, and due to the location of the children’s village in Chipata, will be open to the local community as a diner. This will enable the young people in our care to not only gain useful nutritional skills and how to grow food, but learn about running a business, whilst at the same time provide a service to the community and an income for the children’s village.

Thank you for your support!
